: In this field crashed Sons o´ Satan and just in front of the farm buidling was the crash site of a ME109 near Geismar.

All Along the Watchtower – The siege of Göttingen

Two paintings in the Stadt Museum illustrate how the central German city of Göttingen once looked in the winter of 1625/6. The pictures show the city with its wall, city defences, castles and watchtowers. What might surprise many visiting today is that there are no forests, they were planted after the collapse of the wool trade in the 19^th century.

Depicted are the sieges of Göttingen by Tilly the commander of the Catholic forces during the appalling Thirty Years War, a war which decimated the German speaking states of the Holy Roman Empire seeing mass death from war and famine.

Both paintings (one of which was painted to highlight the horrors of war) show some of the watchtowers and castles featured on this ride.
