My longest ride since my fall in May!
Herbst is firmly with us in Lower Saxony despite some record-breaking high temperatures in October. Autumn (or Fall) means that sections of this tour featured a carpet of fallen leaves which crackle under wheel in the dry or rustle when on foot and are slippery when wet!
Most of the leaves have been pushed aside by use on the trails, but I am told that many trees dropped their foliage early because of the drought and a second tranche of leaf fall will happen soon.
After years of watching cycle races such as Paris Roubaix I am now hard wired to find the often-bleak cobbles and farm roads of Belgium and Northern France romantic. Having been firmly inculcated I seek similar in the Leine Valley, Germany. The Gö Feldweg Omloop is a soulful homage to those races.
I would have ridden my road bike, and although it would be faster, I am still recovering from my injuries after the crash and so I rode my gravel machine. The feldweg can be tough going especially on the concrete Betonweg.
