A page featuring galleries and links for cycle tours undertaken during May 2022.
I ride regularly, and I do not necessarily post a web page for each tour I do.
I do post to Facebook, Garmin Connect, Strava and occasionally to Komoot and Instagram.
Broken
May has seen me off my bike recovering from a nasty crash.
Andrea Hofling pictured the moment – she told me she woke up during the night rerunning the moment.
Riding at a reasonable pace on May 8, 2022 (Highest Height – See below), my 28mm front tyre had caught a hidden tractor rut on a section of gravel sending me into the air with my bike above me as I flipped hard to the ground. I feel guilty to have shocked Andrea, and she did everything right when I was lying on the ground winded.
Post-crash, I was able to see a local doctor at early notice who then sent me to hospital because of a swollen abdomen. No broken bones – no concussion – no damage to the liver – no internal bleeding – no thorax injury, just many impact points that have battered my body and makes it hard for me to move.
Time will heal and I am grateful for not being more broken.

Highest Heights in Gö – May 8 2022 Gravel/Road Ride
We rode to the Hoher Hagen on the westside of the Leine Valley and the highest spot in the area (480 metres), the Gauss Tower offered even more elevation named after the mathematician who used the ´hill’ as a datum point when he developed the maths to be able to map the Kingdom of Hannover.
We rode to the tower by following a rudimentary map and then by line of sight, this saw us having to hike a bike through an area overgrown by nature after tree loss. It felt like the Blair Witch Project until Andrea climbed up a hunters hide and worked out an escape route.
On the way home I broke myself and had to ride almost ten kilometres after falling from my bike at a reasonable pace, my 28mm front tyre had caught a hidden tractor rut on a section of gravel I know very well sending me into the air with my bike above me as I flipped hard to the ground. I feel guilty to have shocked Andrea, and she did everything right when I was lying on the ground winded. Now, thankfully with no bones broken I sit here typing this feeling very sore.
It looks like what was a cool ride may see me off the bike for a while… As Edith Piaf would say “Non, je ne regrette rien” (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fFtGfyruroU)
51km.

Abandon all Hope in Gö (I exaggerate) – May 6 2022 Gravel/Road Ride
My intention was to ride a revised short Gö Strade Bianche by adding a sector of gravel, but my tubeless front tyre suddenly lost air.
There was no sign of spilt milk or a puncture, it just wouldn’t hold air. I fitted an inner tube, abandoned the plan, and rode home at a nice, relaxed pace.
One great thing was the new saddle I was riding for the first time was wonderful, thanks Prologo.

May Day Cake Ride in Gö – May 1 2022 Road Ride
The first of May saw us riding 45km and we stopped at the Historische Spinnerei Gartetal on route. Here we ate cake and listened to live music featuring Pentangle and the Crash Test Dummies tunes.
