We cruised in the sunshine with no real plan, and we said hello to many fellow travellers out on their summer bikes.

Die Erste Straßen Tour in Gö – March 21 2022 Road Ride
My first 100% road tour of 2022 and in glorious sun!
I took my road bike out of winter hibernation, and it feels so fast on the asphalt compared to my gravel machines, nonetheless we rode at a gentle pace wanting to soak up the sunshine as best we could.
At Reinhausen we came across an old wooden World War Two air raid sign once indicating the entrance to a shelter at a rail station. Lining the main road through the village is an amazing wall of natural stone.
Later, on the ride we found an information board highlighting a spot associated with the Thirty Years War – this war devasted Central Europe, Göttingen and scores of villages in the immediate area. It is often cited that it was proportionately more destructive than either World War One or Two.

Gegen den Wind in Gö – March 19 2022 Gravel Ride

The sun shone, and it was warm, but in the shade, it was cold and when exposed the wind was a devil!
I followed my whimsy, and I was able to scout two future routes.

First Aid Kit in Gö – March 16 2022 Road Ride
Answering a call for old but still intact first aid kits we rode to an industrial estate to the West of Göttingen. I am informed that motor vehicles must carry such kits by law and that they should be renewed every two years.
We combined this act with a pleasurable ride, it was meant to be road, but we ended up riding a few sections of gravel which cut across a new industrial/hi-tech industrial zone.
First Aid Kit are also a good band.

Cheating Gö Strade Bianche – March 13 2022 Gravel/Road Ride

We cheated on the short Gö Strade Bianche tour taking short cuts, but we still qualified for a Brevet Card.

Sun Worship in Gö – March 3 2022 Gravel Ride
On day three of the Meteorological Spring and the second day of Lent we were drawn out into the sunshine.
After a hard ride, the previous day I would have normally mopped about the house complaining about feeling tired, but when the weather is so good, I could not turn down the opportunity to ride again.
We feel very blessed to be able to step out of our home and ride almost immediately on cool trails.
An interesting bit of information about Lent is that all Beavers were killed off along the Leine River (which flows through Göttingen), because the Clergy designated them as fish and could thus be eaten during the 40 days of this Christian observance. Thankfully, the Beavers are back!

The Gö Feldweg Omloop – March 2 2022 – ´Road´ Ride
I ventured out to ride a ´road´ based bike tour that links together asphalt and Betonweg field roads with cobbles and gravel, plus cycle paths and public roads.
