We celebrate the Strade Bianche race with an informal gravel ride featuring thirty-six sectors of the ´Weißen Straßen´of Göttingen plus concrete/asphalt feldweg, dirt, asphalt cycle paths and public roads.
I rode out with Josh Schenk and Roland from the P-Cafe located within the medieval city walls of Göttingen in the Nikolai quarter overlooked by the Gothic/Romanesque mix of the St.-Nikolai-Kirche. This was once a popular spot for Medieval Flanders weavers thus linking us to the bastion of cycling.
The high ground above Volkerode (West side) and Ballenhausen/Gross Schneen (East side) offers a ride with a view(s) across the Leine Valley.
Many of the gravel sectors will be known to previous Gö Strade Bianche participants, but like me playing a musical instrument – I may play the right notes but they are not necessarily played in the correct order (Morecambe and Wise with Andre Previn), meaning that we don´t fixate to the sheet music of the established rides.
Thank you, Josh and Roland, for looking after me, I´m not at my best since my recent bike crash.
Josh likes to forage for wild fruit.
