A page featuring galleries and links for cycle tours undertaken during January 2022.
I ride regularly, and I do not necessarily post a web page for each tour I do.
I do post to Facebook, Garmin Connect, Strava and occasionally to Komoot and Instagram.
The picture was taken by Josh Schenk and it reminded me of the painting ´Wanderer Above the Sea of Fog´ by Caspar David Friedrich (1818). This was a major work of the German Romantic Movement of the early 19th century.
Dirty Asphalt mit Josh in Gö – January 29 2022 Road/Gravel Ride
Josh Schenk and I rode at a talking pace on 3 sektors of Pave, Ribinou (Breton farm weg), 4 sektors of gravel, plus concrete and farm asphalt roads with just just a few kilometres of public roads open to motor traffic (cars!).
We even had a Belgian (or Netherlands) like headwind and then we felt like gods when it was at our backs!
In my head we were riding the Gent Wevelgem road race held in Belgium which features much the same although the gravel sections in the race are called Ploegsteert (or Plug Streets as Allied soldiers called them during World War One).
On route Josh went Bavining an old South English word for collecting a bundle of wood – a Bavin, but not a faggot as he did not tie them into a bundle.
He did not Lop or need to evade the Beadle an officer of the Sheriff (such as of Nottingham) who controlled the gathering of wood in old England.
59km

Gö – Waterloo Bridge – Gö – January 25 2022 Gravel/Cycle Path Ride
The plan is to embrace the winter cold and go out at least twice a week for a bike ride.
I must admit to finding the chill of Central Europe tough!
The ride was straight out casual pedal to and back from Waterloo.

Talking Pace mit Josh in Gö – January 22 2022 Gravel Ride
The sky was heavy with rain clouds, and we rode at a pace where we could talk, but fast enough to enjoy some very muddy downhill sections.
Thanks Josh Schenk!
I need a shave!

3 Warte in Gö – January 19 2022 Gravel Ride
A ring of medieval watch towers once protected Göttingen, and we visited three that controlled the southern approach through the Leine Valley.
Diemarden on the east side of the valley is the most complete, whilst to the west the Rosdorf Warte is long gone and where it was situated a tree now grows. The Dreckwarte in the middle on the valley floor is marked by a symbolic circle of stones.

No Gravel in Gö – January 15 2022 Road Ride
I promised my retired gravel bike no rough stuff and I showed good faith by fitting road tyres, but I didn´t say that there wouldn´t be mud…
A 48-kilometre tour almost all on cycle paths and asphalt farm roads with very little public road open to cars.

Old School Strade Bianche in Gö– January 5 2022 Gravel/Road Ride
Forsaking the 21st Century I rode old school with narrow road tyres and rim brakes!

9th Day of Christmas in Gö – January 2 2022 Farm Roads/Gravel Ride
The tradition at Christmas in England especially in the Medieval period was to horde food in the lead up to the Winter Solstice, decorate rooms with green (such as holly with its red berries) and then be merry over 12 days with your friends, family, or fellow workers (or peasants).
On the final 12th night, the ´Lord of Misrule´ would then take over.
The sun shone on this 9th day ride and although we avoided the worst of the mud, we still got dirty.

Riding into 2022 in Gö/Gö Fahr Gö Fest – January 1 2022 Gravel Ride
A laid-back ride and in warm temperatures which was quite a shock considering how cold it has been lately.
Craig Lee Johnson and I both wanted to avoid the worst of the mud but as is well know the plans of mice and men can have varying outcomes.
Happy New Year Everyone.
