On this celebration of Autumn the Gö Gravel informal social tour travels to the East of Göttingen. Autumn is a glorious time when the trees shed their rusty leaves creating a colorful carpet, often hiding ruts, potholes, and roots.

A big change of plan after the previous scouting ride for the Gö Gravel informal ride of the Falling Leaves to be ridden on November 12, 2023. The start is the Gö velodrome whereas the GPS shows a few kilometres before.

I avoided as much as possible of the worst of the flooded gravel trails caused by recent heavy rainfall. On the group ride we may not drown playing water sports, but we will still get a little muddy.

Sadly, an intended visit to the Neolithic rock shelters at Reinhausen will have to wait until another day.

Although we venture out from the velodrome over a familiar route we soon head eastward with a great view over the Leine Valley to enjoy and towards the Gleichen Hills .

After Reinhausen (note the buildings carved into the rocks) we ride upon a concrete forest road lined with trees, then we continue up a well-drained gradual gravel climb and at the top we turn onto a track that although not flooded it does feature forest vehicle mud tracks for a short time. The rest is about avoiding the water filled potholes.

At Witmarshof Capel we ride along the Gartetal taking the Fahradweg adjacent to Duderstädter Landstraßer leaving it to pass the Diemarden Warte and then onto the finish at the end of the rough stuff alte Gartetalbahn onLotzestrasse.

Elevation: 384m – One principal hill of a gradual gradient and the others are short but sometimes steep.
