A page featuring galleries and links for cycle tours undertaken during September 2023.
I ride regularly, and I do not necessarily post a web page for each tour I do.
I do post to Facebook, Garmin Connect, Strava and occasionally to Komoot and Instagram.
Konstantin´s Birthday Gö North Omloop – September 28 2023
A late afternoon spin over the Gö North Omloop route (The Thin Ride Line circuit), a mix of gravel, Betonweg and asphalt Feldweg taking us out to the North of Göttingen.
Thanks for the company: Konstantin, Victoria, Chris, and Finn.
Also, thanks for the cake, Konstantin!

Four Descents of Gö – September 26 2023
Predominantly a road ride this tour features four of my favourite asphalt descents in the Göttingen area and because I´m addicted to Ribinou, Chemin de Vignes or gravel, there are five sectors of gravel plus one cobbled stretch to help link the ride together.
Gö – Seeburger See – September 24 2023
The first ride of Herbst (autumn) saw us pedal on cool gravel and exceptional asphalt Feldweg and Betonweg.
We rode via Ebergötzen to the Seeburger See the largest lake in the Eichsfeld, Göttingen area having been formed in 500BC when a cave collapsed.
An added treat are the great views across the Eichsfeld Gap to the Harz Mountains.

Gö Gravel Social ride – 1 year anniversary – September 21 2023
In autumn 2022 Josh, Andrea and I met in a café (of course) and whilst eating cake we decided to invite people to informally ride with us. We called the rides Gö Strade Bianche referencing the weiße Straßen of Göttingen, this morphed into Gö Gravel.
On September 22, 2022, we held our first informal get together (Gö Strade Bianche 41km), and almost one year to the day we rode Gö Gravel for the 36th time. On this anniversary ride we pedalled upon many of the same Gö white roads.
Danke for the company: Josh, Christina, Sandra M, Sergiy, Victoria, Mario, Konstantin, Sandra P, Marius, Alex, and Chris.

Skinny Tyres in Gö – September 18 2023
My road bike has been neglected for over a year and after a service I took it out for a spin.
On route I stopped to see the Gottingen Tuspo cycle club´s Monday track sessions at the velodrome and this reminded me of the many times I stopped to see the action at Herne Hill when I lived in London.
Now being fully inculcated into the gravel trend I have fitted gravel tyres (28/26mm) thus allowing me the flexibility of mild forays if I wish.
I could ride Paris Roubaix on this bike, and I already have a road ride in mind featuring eight (or ten) sectors of benign rough stuff including kopfsteinpflaster and Feldweg. These help to link together four of my favourite asphalt descents in the area and thus reducing the use of main roads.
This ride was useful as prep, and I added a wee bit of scouting for the route.

Leinebusch in Gö – September 17 2023
The forests of the Kleiner and Großer Leinebusch offered great trails and shade from a sun that was enjoying the last days of summer.
The Leinebusch on the westside of the Leine Valley features stein Weg that would not be out of place on the Paris Roubaix cycle race. Hold onto your tooth fillings!
Viewing the large Sunflower fields at Lemshausen was an added treat.

Gö Gravel – Social ride – Sunset spin – September 14 2023
From the high ground at Volkerode we viewed the setting sun over Göttingen and then we whizzzzzzzzed down a long descent riding over well-known Gö Gravel routes allowing us time to get to the P-Café for kuchen etc.
Danke for the company – Josh, Jonas, Sandra, Konstantin, Sebastian B, Chris, Lydia, Felix, Robin, and Christina.
The Gö Gravel rides are now being tailored to suit the ever earlier coming of darkness.

Kuchen and Forest Ride in Gö – September 10 2023
On a hot weather day, it was amazing to feel cold when we entered the forest, in shady corners the temperature can fall greatly.
It reminded me how bitter it can get in Central Europe in the winter and to appreciate the sun! Nonetheless shade in the forest offers respite from the heat.

Gö Gravel – Social Ride – Auf Der Alten Bahntrasse – September 7, 2023
We rode along the Dransfeld Ramp (abandoned Eisenbahn) following a route devised by Isa, we caught a great view of Gö and then it was downhill through the Leinebuschback into the Leine Valley.
The swamp we encountered was an added extra, thanks Isa – as was the pommes, thanks Josh.
Danke for the company: Josh, Jonas, Isa, Artur, Sandra, Robin, Lydia, Chris, Victoria, and Sergiy.

Relax in Gö… – September 6 2023
On this evening ride my mindset was to ride at a relaxed pace, mind, and body, and so no pushing hard against the pedals.
It was 30kms of appreciating lots of things that are all too easy to take for granted.

Gö Omloop Mash-Up – September 4 2023
Or being a little older fashioned I could say, this ride was a variation on the Gö Feldweg Omloop´s.
More asphalt than usual but nonetheless a heady mix of gravel, Feldweg, Betonweg, Straße and it included two of Gö´s best smooth descents on the ´Black Stuff´. There might have been a third if my legs hadn´t cried enough this day.

Centre of Germany near Gö – September 3 2023
Göttingen is in Central Germany which in turn is in Central Europe. Germany itself has lost one third of its land mass since 1900 and like so many of the national borders in the region these have changed with the ebb and flow of fortune.
Close to Gö where the three German states of lower Saxony, Thuringia and Hesse meet is an area that features a cluster of points which lay claim to being the centre of the country. Backed by a substantial lobby is Niederdorla in Thuringia where the intersection of the lines of latitude and longitude fall. Other methods of measuring suggest Besse, in Hesse (based on a north, south, west, and east axis), and mathematically there are Flinsberg, Silberhausen, Landstreit and Krebeck.
I combined a visit to Waake (which has a new pump track), to visit Krebeck to what is the geodetic centre of Germany (science of measurement). Riding via the Radolfshausen Forst I later passed through Ebergotzen it being the home of the Max and Moritz cartoon characters and a bread museum. The Feldweg and gravel trails are super in this area and I navigated by following signs, although one did send me to the ends of the earth and I had retrace my pedal strokes.
At Krebeck there is the Gedenkstein Mittelpunkt Deutschlands.
I didn´t have enough time to explore the best of the gravel trails as I needed to return via Waake to meet up with Andrea who had left the ride to attend a meeting. Thanks to Chris who had told me about Krebeck and he has a cool Gö Gravel route for us to ride to the centre of Germany at a future date.
