Gö Nord-Sud Feldweg Omloop 56km

Feldweg Home

There aren´t many cobbled roads in the Gö area which can be put together to create a Paris Roubaix like tour. Instead, and to mimic the Flanders region and Northern France we ride nine sections of mild pave, and 33 gravel sectors the latter standing in for the kopfsteinpflaster.

We combine elements of the Gö North Feldweg Omloop and the Gö Het Volk tours into a Gö Nord-Sud Feldweg Omloop.

The Feldweg Omloop doctrine is explained here – https://veloklubhaus.com/2023/05/13/the-go-feldweg-omloop/

This route misses out the southern section of Gö Het Volk from Dramsfeld to Bisenhausen, rather we ride more directly to Obernjesa.

On the Northern loop featured on Gö North Feldweg Omloop we turn back toward Bovenden and we do not continue onto Nörten-Hardenberg.

Not Paris Roubaix, but still very cool

Gravel/Cobble categories (this is purely subjective & made up by us)
We have graded the gravel 1 to 5 with 5 being the roughest (there is also an Hors Cat for very extreme).

Cat 1 – mostly hard packed and rideable on almost all bikes.
Cat 2 – often hard packed, a little rougher, potholes and challenging.
Cat 3 – loose surface, more ruts & potholes, gradient changes, bigger stones with greater caution required. (may include downhill or a turn)
Cat 4 – very rough, loose with larger stones and deep ruts/potholes.
Cat 5 – as 4 but may also be downhill, maybe tight turns or with single track and ruts.
HC – Mind bogglingly hard.

Please bear in mind that roads may at times be closed because of farm or forestry workings, please be considerate to all.

Many smooth asphalt or concrete field roads can be heavily compromised by detritous.

South Loop – Smooth asphalt Feldweg is a feature of this ride

The Ride 56.71km
Feldweg – 52.51km including 33 gravel sectors – 20.8km
Strasse 4.2km

Cobbles 9 sectors – 2.8km
3 sectors on Straße – 1.3km
6 sectors on Feldweg – 1.5km

Elevation: There is one climb on route with a step at 6.5% followed by a flat section and then a final push up at 10.5%.

No Hills
Do not see this route as easy because there are no hills.

There are no substantial hills, but there are 34 sectors of gravel, and the asphalt or concrete field roads can be heavily compromised by detritus or be damaged and are in some cases rougher than the gravel sectors. If it rains or when the gods leave a door open, then the wind can howl, and the area can become a wild and lonely place despite the built landscape. Paris Roubaix for instance is well known for the hardships delivered by the cobbles on route but ask people who have ridden it and they may also mention how the wind battered them as hard.

North Loop – Under a bridge, past the recycling centre and onto the white gravel

Stages
The tour is divided into stages and stated are the types of road sections you will ride per stage.

Villages on route are included and at what distance they come.

Stage/Title

Stage 1 – Velodrome Exit @ 0 KM

If you wish you can ride a lap of the velodrome at the start or finish and this will add approx 800 metres to the tour.

We join a gravel path almost at once and this section can be busy with other users so be watchful and be friendly!

SECTIONS – 1 Gravel (0.5 km – Cat 1/2), Feldweg.

Stage 2 – Kiessee Kopfsteinpflaster

SECTIONS – Cobbles (0.3km Cat 2), 1 Gravel (0.1 km – Cat 1), Public Road

Stage 3 – Kiessee/Rosdorf

We pass the Dreckwarte monument and go over the Leine Dam adjacent to the newly created wetlands.

SECTIONS – Betonweg, 2 Gravel (0.5 & 0.7 km – Cat 1/2), Public Road

Stage 4 – Rosdorf Cobbles

We ignore the asphalt cycle path and instead we ride the cobbles which run alongside the railway. 400 metres of pure pleasure!

Rosdorf Railway Crossing @ 5.3km

Stage 5 – Rosdorfer Warte/Heinrich-Sohnrey Straße

We cross the railway and head onto Betonweg with the now lost medieval Rosdorfer Warte above us.

Stage 6 – Heinrich-Sohnrey Straße/Sieboldhausen

The following asphalt Feldweg inspired the Feldweg Omloops, and these farm roads can be heavy with detritus.

Sieboldhausen @ 10.5km

Stage 7 – Sieboldhausen/Dramfeld

The Three Chairs of Sieboldhausen are an iconic point on this stage, and recently they have been joined by a bench.

NOTE: The Leine-Heide Rad Weg at Godehardestraße and Hagenweg/Maschmülenwegom may feature a diversion. This is because from July 24 work is being undertaken to make safe six World War two aerial bombs at the sport arena situated upon the opposite East Bank of the Leine River. There will be a mass evacuation on September 23, 2023 when the bombs are made safe possibly by controlled detonations.

Since moving to Gö in 2019, I recall almost 20 bombs being found and in 2010 three bomb disposal officers were killed attempting to disarm a device in Grona, Gö.

A number of underpasses below the Leine Bridges are closed at this time and you will need to cross two main roads.
