A page featuring galleries and links for cycle tours undertaken during January 2024.
I ride regularly, and I do not necessarily post a web page for each tour I do.
I do post to Facebook, Garmin Connect, Strava and occasionally to Komoot and Instagram.
Gö Gravel the Shock of the New – January 28 2024
Gö Gravel Scouting Ride.
Away from the Göttingen velodrome and on leaving the Leine River we are faced with the new in form of a colossi of 21st century mercantile activity.
Once we are free of the logistic centres, we get up close and personal with Gö prison (Justizvollzugsanstalt Rosdorf) with its stark concrete walls. Built in 2007 the prison is a level 2 facility but has space for some level 1 offenders (high risk).
Not forsaking the modern completely, we ride upon the high ground of the west side hills following the unseen but audible high-speed rail link.
The theme of the ride is the shock of the modern world.
Thanks for the company on this scouting ride: Victoria, Andrea, Chris, and Konstantin.

Beating the Winter Blues in Gö – January 14 2024
The Schnee, frigid air, ice, and wet that has gripped Central Europe in recent weeks has limited my bike adventures.
The cold (-10) had sucked the strength out of mind and body, bringing on the winter blues meaning emotionally I couldn´t face the icy air on my bike (I did have two great walks in the sunshine). It didn´t help that I fell on some ice whilst walking in the forest and I hurt my knees and elbow giving me further reason to be a little scaredy cat about venturing out on two wheels.
Today on the ride it was grim, the temperature was a ´balmy´ plus two degrees but it feels like minus, and it rained/snowed! Climbing high over the Gleichen Hills was a tough ask and the road there was wintery.
There are reasons to be cheerful, the Winter Solstice has come and gone meaning ever increasing longer daylight hours – Hurray!
Beating the post-Christmas winter blues is an epic feat and two girls showed how to do it by ice skating on a frozen flooded field.
Further therapy comes next week when I visit the theatre to watch an Alan Ayckbourn farce performed in English.

Mit Sandra in Gö – January 6 2024
2024 started a wee bit crazily when Andrea suffered a medical emergency to her eye caused because of an old injury, this created huge pain, and blindness. A few days later and after a surgical procedure she can now see, the pain is gone, and it all looks extremely good for her eye and the future.
With Andrea safe I ventured out for the first ride of the year having accepted an invite to meet up with the excellent Sandra (I like invites). We rode mostly on the road or asphalt Feldweg avoiding deep mud or the now receding flood waters and we enjoyed a rain free tour.
Danke Sandra.
