Stage three of the Deutschland Tour 2019 started in Goettingen before heading to the finish at Eisenach.
It was somewhat surreal to have the race in town and it is as if the citizens of Goettingen had decided to host the Deutschland Tour to make me feel welcome in my new home.
Seeing the Jumbo Visma Team bus pass by an old British telephone box was pretty funny to see.
Stage two the previous day had featured the climb of Herzberger Landstrasse in Goettingen, but today all was a bit more calmer with the race start at the scenic Theaterplatz.
It was great to catch up with VC Londres own Fred Wright and World Track Champion riding as a Stagiaire for the CCC Team.
The bikes were of course fantastic to see at stage start and my mind flooded back to past races I have attended including one Giro d’Italia where Campagnolo were testing the first electric gear system (post Zap).
The Bike Aid Pro Team caught my eye as did their very handsome Benotto bikes which were also ridden by the Metalltechnik Team and are made in nearby Duderstadt.
