Kein Aufsteigen– May 21 2020 Gravel/Road Ride

It was Ascension Day in Göttingen and a public holiday which traditionally is also Vaterstag. What this means is that men get together and drag a small cart about full of beer, they slowly get drunk.

In this time of Covid-19 social distancing the usual large groups were not seen by us, usually you come across them in the oddest places and they are most usually very friendly. Nonetheless it´s all a bit sad really.

We are still looking after Andreas tender knee, so we kept to the flat valley floor almost repeating our ride of May 17. This featured a mixed gravel and tarmac along sections of the Gutingi Strade Bianche with no hills (44km).

When we stopped for a snack, we met a friend who we have not seen for over two months because of the lock down (we have been doing this for longer than the UK).

Lots of sunshine and many happy people out and about on their bikes. I note a few names I recognise who were Flybys.

(no ascending)

A tribute to the women who would carry their wares or produce on their backs to market often walking long distances.
