Across that field – September 10 2019 Gravel Ride

Having been busy at Eurobike and riding 100’s of kilometres (in the dark) Gunnar Fehlau has been AWOL from our lunchtime rides, thus we have not ridden together for a little while.

Today our lunch time ride was interrupted by a puncture for Gunnar and after that we sort of freestyled taking fresh trails which saw us hike a few metres (this is the law if you ride a cyclo cross bike) and we rode across a field when the trail ended at one point. We did get a great view of the Gleichen Hills (pictured above) from there so it made it a worthwhile excursion.

Every ride and with my head engulfed by the fantasy that the last gravel sections of our ride are in fact Carrefour de l’Arbre on route to the finish at the Roubaix Velodrome – So, it is here where I attack Gunnar coming off the abandoned Gartetalbahn onto the tarmac before the gravel, I jump ahead and then hold on as behind I hear Gunnar’s singing fat tyres get ever louder as he bridges the gap to me.

Then it’s a bit of truce as we fly over the gravel at 30kph and end our ride.

A nice gravel ride with a bit of good natured fun added and it was good to catch up.

The relaunch of Gunnar Fehlau’s fahrstil – das Radmagazin. (cycling style) is exciting and the topic for the December issue is….. Ugh (knife in back).
